Get Familiar!Sheila Dixon is mayor of Baltimore. In fact, she's the first female mayor of the city and the only Black woman who's mayor of a major city (pop. of 600,000 or more).
In the last mayoral election, Dixon was actually not a candidate. She was President of City Council (also another first) and was sworn in once the former mayor became governor of Maryland, to fulfill the remainder of his term. Since she's been in office, she's been on a crusade of cleaning up Baltimore inside and out, but hasn't been having much success. In fact, since she's been in office, the crime rate has gone up (I mean, it is Baltimore we're talking about here). So I imagine it's not the easiest job. However, she's still in her first term, so with that said...
This BNP is up for her first full-term election next year, so any B-More folks reading, should go out and be educated voters. That is, unless, you want more shows like Homicide and The Wire!!!
